Waipapa Point Lighthouse (15 minutes drive)

Situated off the beaten track on the south east coast of New Zealand, the Catlins is a major highlight of the Southern Scenic Route.

Winding between Fortrose and Kaka Point, you will travel through rural heartland, nostalgic with timeless, rustic charm. Along the way walking tracks and byways will beckon. Take them. What lies beyond, are the true awe-inspiring treasures of the Catlins.

The natural wonders are enthralling and the wildlife is extraordinary. See seals and sea lions, the Hectors dolphins in Curio Bay and the different species of penguin. View the spectacular scenery with its sweeping beaches, rugged coastlines, formidable cliffs, watchful lighthouses, waterfalls and calm estuaries.

Frasers Beach (5 minutes drive)

You are only 25 minutes drive from the Petrified Forest at Curio Bay or Waikawa where the boat "Dolphin Magic" can be chartered.

It is just another 10 minute drive and a short walk to Slope Point, the southernmost tip of the South Island.

 A 15 minute drive leads you to Waipapa Lighthouse, which marks the scene of New Zealand's worst civilian shipwreck. At this point you are able to view sea lions, wildlife and sea birds.

Other attractions include numerous bush wallks, waterfalls and the Cathedral Caves

  Golf Course at Fortrose ( 5 minutes drive)

Trout fishing in the world renowned Mataura River is within easy driving distance.

On the cliffs at the mouth of the Mataura River is the Golf Course at Fortrose commanding stunning views of Foveaux Strait and the Fortrose Estuary.

Bluff, the gateway to Stewart Island, is approximately a 50 minute drive.

There are many attractions to be enjoyed without getting in the car including your own private bush walk and the excellent views from your window.
